From Legalism to Spiritual Freedom in Christ — Part II

…We pick up where we left off in Part I

Three verses later the underlying spiritual truth is expounded, which advances us into another grand, glorious truth-

1 Corinthians 10:26 – For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.

Not only is the earth God’s because He created it, but also all things as well. This includes music and singing. They are not inherently evil (like some believe playing cards, dancing, movies, etc. are categorically evil) but were perverted by the devil.

So now I enjoy spiritual freedom and liberty, seeing God in all of it!

Not only do we overcome spiritually (1 John 5:4) when we enjoy a secular song but not succumb to it, we also realize that it is part of God’s creation and we also…

…dramatic pause…

…exercise dominion as believers!

Genesis 1:26 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Dominion wasn’t just just at creation to Adam and Eve and they failed, so no more dominion until Christ returns; it is an on-going Truth that we as believers are to know, exercise, and glory God until He returns. It’s an on-going theme in Scripture, through the book of Revelations:

Revelation 1:6 – And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

So I can listen to secular music, enjoy it, be merciful to the artist, and exercise dominion by praying for them and not being overcome by it.

I can walk into a bar, sit there and enjoy my orange juice (or beer or wine if you like), enjoy a meal and not be overcome, possibly being a light to the lost there, thus exercising dominion.

Mark 7:15 – There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

The fact that I’m in a bar, hearing cursing, etc. is not sin; being defiled comes from within not from without.

So let us have dominion over the entire world, including were each of us believers live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28) thus being light to this dark, evil age!

Matthew 5:16 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
