Unworthy but not Worthless

Isaiah 64:6 – But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

We are unworthy to be saved by our own merits, as this verse in Isaiah testifies.

That is clear; Jesus Christ did all the work on the cross to satisfy God’s wrath and pay the world’s sin debt:

John 19:30 – When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Hebrews 10:12 – But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

Romans 3:28 – Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Romans 3:23 – Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

However! Believers, now being saved and redeemed, are no longer unworthy; useless; pitiful; despised; forsaken; or worthless! There’s a spirit of false humility in the body of Christ among those who despise themselves and claim, “I’m nothing; less than nothing. I’m not worth being saved.”

Colossians 3:23 – Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

And that is where we error. If we read Ephesians we clearly see our exalted position in Christ, in the body of Christ, seated in the heavenlies:

Ephesians 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

Ephesians 1:11a –  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance…

Ephesians 1:18 – he eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.

Ephesians 2:6 – And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 1:13b – …and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.

We were worth being saved; the fallen angel weren’t offered salvation. Christ didn’t die for them. Jesus wouldn’t have spilt His blood if we weren’t worth it.

Why were we worth it? Because God is love and we were created for His good pleasure!

1 John 4:8 – He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Revelation 4:11 – Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Let us rejoice and praise God for blessing us and positioning us as He did!

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.
1 John 3:1
