Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart
Whose word’s have power to change your walk and grow you in the faith? God’s or man’s? Let’s find out.
Only God’s Word has power to discern and change the believer’s thoughts, minds, actions, fruit, etc. Do you read, study, remember, meditate on, abide in, dwell on, and live God’s/Jesus’s Words or man’s? Do you have a favorite teacher/pastor whose words, phrases, stories, ideas/traditions you just admire? They you remember, enjoy, and make decision with?
If so, then are you following man of God? Will the Holy Spirit empower man’s words to give you spiritual victory in your walk and in the world?
Why do believers enjoy, remember, use, and cite man’s words over/instead of God’s? Scripture tells us, and the answer is so simply, so profound, and so black and white:
2 Timothy 4:3-4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Sadly, believers are turned from God’s Word exclusively unto man’s, for they appeal to his/her flesh. Unless believers study and know this passage and related verses, they’ll sadly continue to go astray.
I certainly don’t want any believer quoting me. I don’t want to make up words, phrases, stories, ideas, etc. over and above God’s Word. I was chatting with a believer once and said, “I’ve got a couple of glory stories I’d like to share with you of how God blessed me this past month.” He replied, “Oh, I like that phrase- glory story- I think I’ll use it.” I was aghast. “No!”, I said, “please don’t”.
Why the big deal? Why does God want us to use only His Words exclusively? Because if we use man’s then our faith is in man and not God. This is so vitally important.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 – And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
So let us rejoice that God’s Word is both sufficient and powerful enough for our walk and lives!
