We don’t DO to BE; since Father did the DOing when He saved us, we BE to DO. Recall the I Am’s.
Israel had to reform the FLESH; now however, in this dispensation of grace, Father wants us to reform the THINKING (reckon, be enlightened, know, be wise, understand).
Father instructs us to be faithful not successful. And by the way, we live by the faith of Jesus Christ (Gal 2:20) so we don’t even have to whip up any faith; we simply watch Christ in us doing it.
BE vs. DO:
We reckon ourselves dead (forget the old man who’s gone) and alive to God in Christ Jesus- we set our sights on things above (Col 1:1-4) not things on earth like my circumstances or my dead old man (2 Cor 5:16-17).
Experientially:
1.) Start of the day: “Father, I look forward to what You’re going to do in me today.” (Phil 2:13)
My thoughts as I wake up: Father, I’d like to stop being rude to others. I know this is due to my impatience. I really hate it because it doesn’t feel right, because as a New Man and adopted son, that’s not righteousness. So it would be cool if you changed me (sanctified me) and make me more kind like You.
2.) During the day:
Me while having lunch: “Ouch! I’m so selfish today; I really don’t care about anyone else today. Oh, I hate this sin; I have to try harder to think of others first. Sorry, God.”
Father: “Huh? What are you doing looking at the sin of your old man?! Didn’t I take care of that already? Didn’t I make you accepted in the beloved? Why do you still think you have to perform to gain My acceptance? Didn’t I tell you to set you sights on things above, and not on temporal things here on earth, like your performance or your dead old man?” I choose to not remember you sin (Psalm 103:12-13) so why do you keep dwelling on it? Be free!”
3.) End of day: “Father, thank you for what You did in me today!”
My thoughts while drifting off to sleep: Well, Father it was a good day. You were faithful in me today; but I was still rude today. But You know what, a funny thing happened; I wasn’t so angry over little things that happened today. So I see how You grew me today and set me free, so thanks! I’ll let You take away the rudeness when You see fit.
Me: Gulp! “Oh, sorry, Father. I forgot.” Big sigh. “Yeah, wow! Thanks that You did make me accepted in the beloved right off the bat!” Man, this grace and freedom feels awesome!
Paul’s two prayers for us saints today are to BE, not DO:
Ephesians 1:17-18 – That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
Colossians 1:9 – For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Father wants us to know who we are in Christ and what He’s doing: 3 John 4 – I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in truth.
If I’m not aware of any of this, or don’t focus on it I’ll miss out on Father’s work in me and even delay it. I won’t be able to enjoy His grace.
